Palatki Red Rock Heritage Site
I wrote the lyrics for this song after visiting Palatki Red Rock Heritage Site. Located near Sedona Arizona, it details of the lives of ancient people in the Verde Valley through ancient rock images and cliff dwellings.
[VERSE 1]
Palatki pueblo dwellings, secrets in the walls,
Ancient artists wander by, and whisper in the halls,
Through pictographs and petroglyphs, their mysteries still unfold,
Standing through the centuries, like new, and yet so old.
[CHORUS]
Palatki Red Rock Heritage Site, we hear your ancient calls,
Inviting us into your homes, inside these rocky walls,
The Verde’s Native people painted stories in the stone,
And through our eyes they live again, long after they are gone.
[VERSE 2]
Neath south-facing overhangs, right where the sun had shone,
In times of plenty, times of drought, your story's marked in stone.
Sheltering painted symbols, in alcoves streaked and stained,
The Verde Valley’s people tell, their story once again.
[CHORUS REPEAT]
Palatki Red Rock Heritage Site, we hear your ancient calls,
Inviting us into your homes, inside these rocky walls,
The Verde’s Native people painted stories in the stone,
And through our eyes they live again, long after they are gone.
[VERSE 3]
To understand the way you lived, and challenges you faced,
You give your story to the world, through symbols we have traced,
With animals and figures, scattered and aligned,
You take us back in time, by what you left behind.
[CHORUS REPEAT]
Palatki Red Rock Heritage Site, we hear your ancient calls,
Inviting us into your homes, inside these rocky walls.
The Verde’s Native people painted stories in the stone,
And through our eyes they live again, long after they are gone.
