Williams, Arizona

We had a vacation home north of Williams Arizona for awhile, and I fell in love with the town. It is just a great place and so close to the Grand Canyon. So many good memories were made there.

Williams, Arizona
is a special town
Known to the be the Gateway
To the Grand Can-i-yon
Home of Old Bill Williams
Mountain man of fame
Now in bronze, he looks away to
the mountain of his name

Williams on Route 66
one day met its fate
passed by with the building
of the Interstate
Officially, Route 66
Was declared no more
the day I-40 opened,
back in ’84

But rising from the ashes
Like the phoenix of renown
Williams Arizona
Revived its little town
The Grand Canyon Railroad
draws people far and wide
With Old Bill Williams high above
Lookin down with pride

Now Williams, Arizona
is a National Historic place
Along the Old Route 66
and Grand Canyon’s Gate
With Western shops and galleries
and Native American made
Restaurants with their microbrews
and festivals and parades

And following Thanksgiving Day
Williams is at its best
when families and their children
Ride the Polar Express
And standing over 20 feet,
high for all to see,
Ornaments and streams of light,
decorate the tree.
